Personality Assessment (Temperament)
The Personality Assessment system we provide to client companies looks primarily at the applicant’s temperament (ie how they will go about doing their jobs). The other aspects that go to make up a person are character (attitudes, motivation, stability, maturity etc) and ability (intelligence, specific aptitudes, skill, knowledge and training) is not examined in this assessment.
The assessment measures a variety of traits and looks at the degree of these characteristics in people. This allows us to predict roughly how they will go about doing a job. If you then match the kind of behaviour the vacancy requires you can make a reasonable prediction as to whether the person is likely to perform well or not.
The supporting theory behind the assessment is the assumption that people inherit some of their basic temperament qualities and form the balance of these qualities in the early days of their lives and change very little in temperament as they go through life. The best way to appraise people is to have them appraise themselves by revealing what they have been like in the past. They do this in this assessment by rating themselves on certain descriptive words. The result is a fairly good appraisal of what their temperament has been like in the past and will give us a fairly sound basis for appraising their future performance. Since every word on the assessment is a desirable word, there is little likelihood that someone can fix the assessment because even if they pick out the descriptive words that they think are most desirable, these are usually the words that describe them best.
When we have completed the assessment you will receive a written report outline the person’s temperament and a concluding recommendation regarding the types of jobs that might best suit their temperament. We also give a set of Questions to help exploit the information gleaned from the report in a structured manner.
The assessment is a good guide as to an individual applicants suitability and ability to match your job specification. However the writers experience would suggest where a applicant demonstrates verifiable success in similar role (good interview and references) then other factors such as high levels of motivation, determination, or attitude towards work, can more than compensate weaknesses in temperament and ability.
